The Healthy Chinese Cuisine Ambassadors project visited St Thomas More's Catholic School for the second time on the 21st January. The students at the school proved to have extensive knowledge of cooking and preparation, despite few having extensive experience with Chinese food before. They sat and listened to a presentation from Ming-Ai about some of the culture and history of Chinese food, as well as a presentation from Lee Kum Kee which aimed to extend students understanding of the essential elements of Chinese food.
Cooking tutor Belinda Yip demonstrated to the students Oyster Sauce Chicken, walking through all the basic steps that would be required and talking about the theory of food preparation. The students then had the opportunity to try to make the Oyster Sauce Chicken for themselves which they got right to. The students displayed a great sense of understanding and capability in their cooking, mostly working by themselves to cook some amazing dishes. At the end two prizes were given to the students who demonstrated the best taste and presentation with their dishes, although it was close!
The students appeared to thoroughly enjoy the cooking demonstration and left feedback, including: "That was my first time that I cook[ed] Chinese food and I like it a lot and I will do it at home", "I... [cooked] Chinese food for first time and I like so much... [it] is easy and healthy", another student commented that they liked "how they explain it well" whilst other students noted "I've never really used oyster sauce and I enjoyed it a lot".
